The Tahoma Bears swept opening day across all three teams on Tuesday afternoon/night as the Varsity and JV Blue teams defeated O’Dea at home and JV Gold defeated Enumclaw on the road.

Varsity - Tahoma 8, O’Dea 3

In a matchup between two of Prep Baseball Report’s Top-25 teams in the state heading into the season, the Bears got the better of the Fighting Irish thanks to strong pitching and a huge second inning. Tahoma pushed 8 runs across in the 2nd inning on 4 hits and 6 walks. Jacob Lee delivered the big swing with a two-run triple to bring in the first two runs of the game. Adam Jay had two hits in the inning. On the mound, Jay and Bryson Leach combined to throw 5 scoreless, no-hit innings with 3 walks and 9 total strikeouts. Talon Coker and Brayden Fenton finished things out, each making their Varsity debut.

The JV Blue team won a thriller in their home-opener against O’Dea. The Bears were down 6-0 heading into the bottom of the 6th inning before roaring back with a 7-run outburst. The Fighting Irish re-took the lead in the top of the 7th with 2 runs of their own before the Bears answered with 2 of their own to walk it off in an opening day victory. RBI doubles from Hudson Thom, Eli Grant, and Rowan Douglas along with RBI singles from Chase Fritz and Jonah McGhee powered the big 6th inning before a Timmy McEwen triple and Aaron Abadilla single tied things up in the 7th. After stealing 2nd and 3rd, Abadilla was driven in by Grant’s ground ball fielder’s choice. On the mound, Grant, Grayson Perkins, McGhee, and Riley Smart held O’Dea back enough to let the offense steal one.

The JV Gold team went on the road and handled business against Enumclaw with a relentless offensive attack that saw them score in every inning but the 5th. Carter Stumpges, Anthony Wagner, Zach Moser, Noah Ruud, and Kolton Ackley each picked up knocks in this one, with Stumpges leading the way with 2 RBI. On the mound in his Tahoma debut, Colin Clem was outstanding, going 4.0 IP allowing just 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 8. Jasper Sarkany shut the door from there with 2 innings of 1-run ball and 5 strikeouts of his own.
