3/21, 3/22 Game Recaps
The Varsity team had a pair of setbacks on Saturday in Vancouver while the JV Blue team took care of business on Friday night.
Varsity - Tumwater 7 , Tahoma 5
In the postponed matchup originally scheduled for Saturday, the Bears couldn’t overcome a strong Tumwater attack and fell by a final of 7-5. The Bears got a nice start from Neal Burtis with 3 scoreless innings, but the Thunderbirds were able to get to the trio of relievers (Colby Rice, Beckett Turnbow, Logan Lykken) for 7 runs (all earned) after that. The Bears fought back, primarily thanks to a pinch-hit grand slam by sophomore Grayson Turnbow.
Standout Performers
Neal Burtis (‘26) – 3.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K
Grayson Turnbow (‘27) – 1/1, 4 RBI, Grand Slam
Varsity - Battle Ground 7, Tahoma 3
Game two of the day for the Bears was another battle, but the Bears came out on the bottom once again. The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first primarily thanks to some shaky command on the mound from the Tigers. Things would stay close, and the two eventually went into extra innings tied at 3. In the top of the 8th, Battle Ground broke things open with a 4-run frame that the Bears couldn’t match.
Standout Performers
Bryson Leach (‘25) – 3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K
Trey Davies (‘27) – 1/3, 2 R
Grayson Turnbow (‘27) – 1/4, 1 2B
Adam Jay (‘25) – 1/4, 1 RBI
JV Blue - Tahoma 16, Enumclaw 3
JV Blue cruised to a mercy-rule win after 4 innings against Enumclaw on Friday night in the rain. Things were tied at 1 after the first inning before the Bears put 12 runs on the board in the 2nd inning, and then 3 more in the 3rd. Riley Smart and Jacob Remfert combined to throw 4 innings on the mound, giving up just 1 hit, walking 8, and striking out 9. Offensively, 7 different Bears collected hits, with Hudson Thom, Matero Gijalva, and Chase Fritz each picking up two knocks. The Bears also ran wild on the bases, stealing 10 bags in the game.

Hudson Thom (‘27) – 2/3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR
